40th Anniversary of the ACP Education Foundation

In 2025, the ACP Education Foundation is celebrating its 40th anniversary! We have experienced many highlights during these past 40 years, where the ACP Education Foundation has influenced and has made an impact on the specialty of prosthodontics. In 2025, the Foundation finds itself in a position of re-imagining our strategic direction as we look forward to what is possible in terms of how best to serve our specialty into the future.

The Education Foundation has continued the tradition of supporting prosthodontic residents, new practicing prosthodontists, and research initiatives. Over the past several years, the general environment for funding our efforts has changed in a palpable manner. Due to this, we continue to rely on the members of the American College of Prosthodontists for support more than ever.

We have continued to invest in the Digital Dentistry Curriculum, now in Phase 2 of a multi-year project, in partnership with Henry Schein and several dental schools. The goal is to serve in a leadership role guiding the implementation of digital dentistry in an educational environment, while also creating opportunities for implementation in a private practice setting.

The Foundation has also made plans to appropriately archive and create access to a comprehensive digital library containing the original research and records of Dr. Per Ingvar Brånemark. The digital archive is being crafted in collaboration with the National Dental Museum in Baltimore, and provides the ACPEF with the opportunity to ensure the documents used in the development of root form dental implants are accessible to be viewed by all clinicians worldwide.

Working actively to support and maintain influence within the field of dentistry comes with a cost. Recently the ACPEF Board of Directors approved a $1 million transfer from reserve funds to cover programmatical and administrative expenses, ensuring the Foundation can continue to support the specialty as we progress through 2025.

The ACPEF Board considers this experience a call to action. Over the years, the Education Foundation has engaged in many projects and initiatives to be proud of, including the development of the Clinical Practice Guidelines, which involved collaboration with many dental organizations. It is the goal of the Education Foundation to develop additional projects and initiatives that influence dentistry and highlight our contributions as prosthodontists.

The 40th Anniversary Annual Appeal for the Education Foundation is as important as it has always been. The greatest impact occurs just through the number of supporters that contribute to the ACPEF. We are grateful for all levels of support received, and we encourage everyone to please consider donating when the Appeal launches later this spring. Making a financial contribution this year will be a tangible way to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the ACP Education Foundation and its impact.

As a final word, take a minute to find those who worked hard to get the ACPEF off the ground 40 years ago, or those who continued to strive for the vision 30 years ago. You may even want to look for those who applied their efforts 20 years ago – even the last five or 10 years. Send them a note of gratitude or thank them in person. There are many people that have contributed time and talent to create and build the ACP Education Foundation into what it is today. We look forward to watching the Education Foundation evolve and continue to grow into the future to keep serving our community.

Sincerely,
