Technique for Retrieving a Locked Implant-Supported Bar Overdenture Following Direct Attachment Pick-Up Procedure

JOP_8-27-25

Now online in the Journal of Prosthodontics, a report of a technique for retrieving a locked implant-supported bar overdenture co-authored by ACP members Weiqing Liu, DDS, MSD, PhD, Toshiki Nagai, DDS, MSD, Daizo Ishiguro, DDS, and Wei-Shao Lin, DDS, PhD, FACP, MBA.

Implant-assisted complete dentures, particularly those utilizing implant-supported bar systems (RP-4), offer significant advantages in patient satisfaction and prosthetic function compared to conventional dentures. However, complications can arise during the direct intraoral pick-up procedure.

This report presents a predictable and straightforward technique for retrieving a locked implant-supported bar overdenture following the intraoral direct pick-up procedure while incorporating the attachments. This approach utilized the original CAD design to determine the location and angulation of the access points in the milled bar, allowing for efficient retrieval of the stacked prosthesis without the need for complex or costly clinical interventions or remaking the prosthesis in the dental laboratory.

This approach enhances the management of such complications and aligns with modern digital workflows in prosthodontics.
