Considerations for Predictable Outcomes in Anterior-Implant Supported Restorations
Dimitra Vasilaki, DDS, MSc
Boston University Henry Goldman School of Dental Medicine
This presentation focuses on key clinical considerations that influence the final peri-implant soft tissue architecture and restorative success in the anterior area. Emphasis is placed on recognizing limitations and managing associated risks to improve predictability in esthetic outcomes. A structured clinical workflow is presented, highlighting the importance of provisional restoration design as a critical tool for guiding soft tissue architecture and emergence profile development. Additional factors such as three-dimensional implant positioning, biologic width management, soft tissue phenotype, and prosthetic limitations are discussed in relation to their impact on long-term stability and esthetics.
At the conclusion of this presentation attendees should be able to:
- Understand key factors influencing anterior implant esthetic outcomes.
- Apply provisional restorations to shape emergence profile predictably.
- Recognize limitations and manage risks in anterior implant restorations.
Biography: Dr. Dimitra Vasilaki is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials, Boston University. She completed her specialty training in prosthodontics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and was an ITI scholar at the University of Connecticut. Precision by Design: Systematic Roadmap to Predictable Implant-Supported Fixed Complete Dentures (ISFCD)
Omnia Saleh, BDS, MScD, PhD
Boston University Henry Goldman School of Dental Medicine
Achieving predictable outcomes in implant-supported fixed complete dentures demands far more than surgical skill. It requires a comprehensive, well-orchestrated treatment planning strategy. This webinar takes clinicians on a structured journey through the critical decision making process behind successful full-arch implant rehabilitation.
At the conclusion of this presentation attendees should be able to:
- Develop a step-by-step planning protocol for full-arch implant cases.
- Create strategies to anticipate and prevent common complications.
- Identify tools for better patient communication and case acceptance.

The Influence of Prosthetic Designs on Peri-implant Tissue Health
Gau-Hao Lin, MS, DDS
University of California, San Francisco
Dental implant therapy has become increasingly popular, and peri-implant bone loss is also being reported more frequently. Although peri-implant bone loss is multifactorial, growing evidence suggests that implant positioning and prosthetic design significantly influence peri-implant hard and soft tissue stability. Without a clear restorative strategy, the risk of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis may increase. This lecture will review principles of ideal implant positioning, their impact on long-term outcomes, and how peri-implant tissues respond to different prosthetic designs based on implant position.
At the conclusion of this presentation attendees should be able to:
- Discuss the relationship between implant positioning, prosthetic design, and peri-implant tissue stability.
- Evaluate the relationship between key risk indicators and their biological effects on peri-implant soft and hard tissue stability.
- Identify clinical principles for ideal implant positioning and restorative planning to minimize the risk of peri-implant complications.
Biography: Dr. Guo-Hao (Alex) Lin is a Diplomate and an examiner of the American Board of Periodontology. He is the Director of the Postgraduate Periodontics Program at UCSF and holds an adjunct professorship at the University of Michigan. Dr. Lin has authored over 100 peer-reviewed research articles and contributed to several book chapters, with his research focusing primarily on evidence-based dentistry and implant-related clinical trials.

Treating People Not Patients
Michael K. Sonick, DMD
Univeristy of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine
In ideal dental and medical care, the focus should be on treating the whole person, not just addressing individual issues. Unfortunately, this is not always the reality. Healthcare professionals, including both dentists and physicians, are often trained to perform specific procedures rather than providing comprehensive care. Dental education, in particular, tends to emphasize the mastery of isolated technical skills and procedures, often neglecting the broader concept of patient care (consider the rigorous requirements of dental school).
The result of this fragmented approach is a diminished ability to gain patient acceptance for treatment that truly serves both their needs and the healthcare provider's goals. Our mission is to foster strong, trusting relationships built on transparency and shared decision-making between the patient, doctor, and staff.
Achieving treatment acceptance that aligns with the patient’s best interests requires an approach that goes beyond simply presenting a report of findings or listing procedures. In this presentation, Dr. Sonick will share the key communication strategies that have enabled him to build a successful practice, where more than 90% of patients agree to comprehensive dental treatments. His fee-for-service practice is regularly booked three months in advance. With decades of experience and ongoing study, Dr. Sonick will not only share fascinating clinical cases, but also guide you through the critical aspects of office design and team building that are essential to creating a patient-centered environment.
At the conclusion of this session, the attendee should be able to:
- Establish rapport, trust, and engagement with patients.
- Build a servant-hearted team that delivers WOW experience.
- Achieve higher patient acceptance of comprehensive treatment.
Biography: Dr. Michael Sonick is a full-time practicing periodontist in Fairfield, CT and guest lecturer at NYU and the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He is the author of the book Treating People Not Patients and co-editor Implant Site Development and serves on multiple editorial boards. His mission is to improve the quality of patients’ lives.
