Remembering Susan E. "Betsy" Brackett, DDS, MS, FACP
The American College of Prosthodontists is deeply saddened to share the passing of ACP Past President Susan E. "Betsy" Brackett, DDS, MS, FACP, on Sept. 11, 2026.
A respected prosthodontist, educator, mentor, and leader, Dr. Brackett devoted her career to advancing the specialty and supporting those around her.
She earned her DDS from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry in 1978, where she was the only woman in her class and just the second woman to graduate from the College in its history. She completed her certificate in Fixed Prosthodontics and Master of Science degree at the University of Iowa, and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics (ABP) and Fellow of the ACP in 1993. Throughout her career, she served in academic and private practice settings while helping educate and mentor generations of dentists and prosthodontists.
Dr. Brackett's service to the ACP was extraordinary. She served on numerous ACP committees and task forces, represented Oklahoma in the ACP House of Delegates, served nine years on the ACP Education Foundation Board of Directors, and held several leadership positions, including Secretary, Vice President, and President-Elect, before serving as ACP President from 2016-17. Her dedication to the College and the specialty was recognized through numerous honors, including the ACP Distinguished Service Award, ACP President's Award, and Dan Gordon Lifetime Achievement Award.
Beyond her many accomplishments, Dr. Brackett will be remembered by colleagues, students, and friends for her generosity, mentorship, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping others succeed. Her influence on the profession of prosthodontics and on the ACP community will continue for many years to come.
