2025 Major General (Retired) Bill B. Lefler Federal Services Award
The American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) honored Capt. Ben Hunter with the 2025 Major General (Retired) Bill B. Lefler Federal Services Award at the Annual Awards & President's Dinner held at the 55th Annual Session of the ACP, on Oct. 24 in New Orleans. This award recognizes excellence in leadership, patient care, mentorship, and service.
Dr. Ben Hunter earned his BS from Stephen F. Austin State University and his DDS from Baylor College of Dentistry. After graduation, he entered the US Navy, where he completed a one year advanced clinical dentistry program in San Diego and a three year residency in prosthodontics at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, MD, and earned a MS from George Washington University.
Throughout his 25 year Navy career, Dr. Hunter became a Diplomate of the American College of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists. His deployments took him around the world, including tours in Scotland, Camp Lejeune with the Marines, aboard the USS Nimitz, and at the National Naval Medical Center Bethesda, he supported the US Army and Navy Oral Maxillofacial Surgery residency program. He retired in 2012 at the rank of Navy Captain (O-6). He is currently serving as acting Director for Dental Lab Operations in Dallas.
