Reducing the Risk of COVID‐19 Transmission in Dental Offices: A Review
Now online in the Journal of Prosthodontics, a timely review of strategies to reduce the risks of COVID‐19 transmission in dental offices from Reza Eftekhar Ashtiani, DDS, MS, Shabnam Tehrani MD, MSC, Marta Revilla‐León DDS, MSD, and Amirali Zandinejad DDS, MSc.
The pandemic has affected many professions and dentistry is considered to be one of the most vulnerable professions due to the high risk of transmission between dentist, dental team, and patients. In this article, the authors review essential knowledge about this virus and its transmission and recommend preventive methods based on existing scientific research and recommendations to prevent the spread of this virus in dental offices and clinics.
Strategies and recommendations described in this review include tele-screening, hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfection, and ventilation. The authors emphasize that it is vital for dental offices to implement these strategies to alleviate patient fears and maintain the dental health of our communities.
