The new ACP Officers and Board members began their duties during the Annual Session held on Nov. 4 through Nov. 7.More than 1,400 attendees included prosthodontists, dental technicians and other dental industry professionals and guests who learned the latest in prosthodontic trends, leading edge technology and other news impacting the specialty during the Annual Session, which is held each fall.

Highlights from this year included free oral cancer screenings offered on Nov. 4 at Grossmont Shopping Center in La Mesa, Calif. in an effort to help educate the public about oral cancer, which is diagnosed in more than 35,000 people each year. When caught early, oral cancer may be curable in up to 90 percent of cases, and prosthodontists, dentists with an additional three years of specialty training, are specialists in screening and diagnosing this growing disease. This year’s meeting also combined a comprehensive scientific program, exhibits and social opportunities into one exciting event. Program topics included Occupational Hazards, Bone Physiology, Implant Prosthodontics, Clinical Realities and Occlusion. This year’s Exhibit Hall showcased the latest products and services in prosthodontics from more than 55 companies. The Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening was celebrated at the U.S.S. Midway, featuring access to flight simulators and spectacular views from the flight deck and boasted a record attendance of more than 700 guests.

The ACP’s 40th Annual Session will be Nov. 3-6, 2010 in Orlando, where the College will celebrate its 40th Anniversary. A highlight of the meeting features keynote speaker Malcolm Gladwell, New York Times best-selling author, who has written about his concern for access to oral health care in the U.S. Save the date to commemorate these exciting events in Orlando.
