40 Facts for the 40th
1. The first membership meeting of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) took place on February 11, 1971, and was held at the Sheraton Blackstone Hotel in Chicago. It was at this meeting that the slate of officers was voted upon and the Constitution and Bylaws ratified.
2. The ACP constitution and bylaws were adopted at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH on March 13, 1977 during an executive council meeting.
3. The ACP headquarters was originally located in San Antonio, Texas. The office was then relocated to Chicago in 1994 to the American Dental Association headquarters building at 211 E. Chicago Ave. in Suite 1000, on the 10th Floor were it still can be found today.
4. The ACP has members in over 30 countries worldwide.
5. In 1985, the ACP Education Foundation was formed. In response to the demand for education and research, the Foundation was developed to provide the resources required to support the vision of the College and the needs of the specialty.
6. Dr. Carl Schulter served as the ACP President during the College's 25th Anniversary in 1995.
7. The first edition of the Journal of Prosthodontics was published in 1992 by then Editor-in-Chief Dr. Kenneth Stewart. Initially, the Journal of Prosthodontics was published quarterly, and evolved into a six issue and now an eight issue per year offering.
8. The only Annual Session held outside of the United States was in 2004 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
9. The first ever Dental Technician Leadership Award was presented to Robert Kreyer, C.D.T. for his outstanding service to the prosthodontic community, contributions to the dental laboratory profession and the discipline of prosthodontics at the 40th Annual Session in Orlando, Florida.
10. The Academic Alliance membership category was introduced in 2006 for educators.
